Monday Motivation: Why Setting Goals Doesn't Work.

I know you read the title of this email and was like, what is the lady talking about?

Haha!

Or you may have thought this was a clickbait email...I assure you it is not.

Let me say it again.

Setting Goals Doesn't Work.

Think about it...

We’ve all fallen into the trap of setting goals, especially at the beginning of the year only to be disappointed when those goals are still the same the next year. Then, we are hard on ourselves about the fact that we spent a whole year and haven’t moved the needle toward our desired life.

Do you know what happened?

We bought into the lie that setting goals would help us achieve our next step.

So, what are we supposed to do?

First, we can set goals all we want, but if we aren't in alignment with God, it will be difficult to achieve those goals. Also, our plans are secondary to the plans of God. Proverbs 19:21 (NIV) beautifully captures this sentiment: "Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails."

Okay, so if you can't create goals, then what should we do?

The thing is.....

we CAN create goals,

but those goals alone will not help us to finish the line.

We have to pray about those goals.

We have to be in alignment with God.

We have to be intentional about an action plan.
